| CLF Medical Technology Acceleration Program, Inc. (MTAP) is a non-profit organization that directly or by contract conducts medical research projects, which have a substantial likelihood of improving the health of the general public. MTAP began in 1997 as a part of Charitable Leadership Foundation (CLF), a non-profit organization that supports programs that address problems in the areas of education, housing, job skills, and economic opportunities for low-income people. Since 2002, MTAP has operated as a separate entity. MTAP is still supported by CLF, but aims to become self-sustaining by receiving revenues from licensing intellectual property to pharmaceutical companies. Back to Top |

| MTAP devotes its funds to develop innovative biomedical intellectual property that have the potential of benefiting the public by providing a cure or treatment for targeted diseases or medical problems. These funds are used to complete proof-of-principal studies, preclinical studies, and possibly Phase I human clinical trials. The projects that MTAP supports must have proven themselves deserving of further research development, but lack sufficient funding to move forward. If a research project reaches a level of success that is deemed commercially viable, MTAP intends to license the intellectual property to a pharmaceutical company that will complete the studies needed to bring the product to market. In return for licensing the intellectual property to a pharmaceutical company, MTAP will receive a fair return on its investment, enabling MTAP to invest in other medical research projects. | MTAP was formed because many medical schools and research institutes have valuable biomedical intellectual property, but lack the funding to develop these concepts to the point where pharmaceutical companies will license the intellectual property for further development and marketing. MTAP wants to help bring new treatments and cures to the public. In order to do this, MTAP will provide support for development of biomedical intellectual property with the expectation of licensing it to pharmaceutical companies once it proves to be commercially viable. MTAP has a Scientific Advisory Board whose members collectively have an extensive knowledge about medical research from the initial research through the FDA and the marketplace, which enables them to select very promising projects. The members are affiliated with educational, governmental, and pharmaceutical industries and are in regular contact with other researchers and companies throughout the US and Europe. MTAP’s Scientific Advisory Board provides many benefits to the projects that MTAP supports. Click here for more information

MTAP is actively involved with all of the projects that it supports. MTAP requires quarterly progress and expenditure reports in order to stay up-to-date on the progress of each project. This enables MTAP to make sure that all project milestones are established and accomplished on time. MTAP representatives may also have periodic meetings with the researcher to discuss his/her project.
MTAP holds an annual meeting where the principal investigator on each project presents information on his/her project. This enables MTAP’s Scientific Advisory Board to see the progress made on each project and provides networking opportunities for MTAP supported scientists.
