Application Deadline:
Proposals are reviewed on an on-going basis.

Proposal review criteria:

The criteria that research project proposals are evaluated on include:

  • Existence of or potential for innovative intellectual property that provides a way to prevent, treat, or cure health problems
  • Potential for scientific and commercial success
  • Cost and time period of the research project
  • Right to practice and ability to obtain patent protection
  • Evidence of a significant enough market size for a pharmaceutical company to develop and market the technology
  • Qualification of the principal investigator
    Back to Top

Reasons why MTAP declines project proposals:

  • Probability of scientific success is low
  • Project is at a point that is too early in development
  • Project development costs are too high
  • Patent protection for the intellectual property cannot be obtained or the institution does not have the right to practice the invention
  • Number of people infected with the disease is too few
  • Commercialization potential is too low
