MTAP can only fund other non-profit institutions, such as universities, medical research centers, etc. MTAP cannot provide funding to individuals or for-profit institutions, unless it is for consulting or specialized services, such as toxicology studies.
MTAP gives preference to intellectual property from institutions within the United States. However, MTAP can support intellectual property from institutions located elsewhere, provided such institutions offer special advantages for the conduct of research that is of particular interest to MTAP.
Institutional Relationships:
Many MTAP-supported projects are uncovered through the program’s Inter-Institutional Agreements with other organizations. These agreements enable MTAP’s advisors to review an institution’s intellectual property and select specific projects for funding. MTAP’s current Inter-Institutional relationships include:
- Johns Hopkins University
- Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
- New England Medical Center
- Ordway Research Institute
MTAP will work with other institutions to establish an agreement that is mutually suitable with regard to ownership of the intellectual property, patenting, and percentage of revenues.
